Yes, I have been MIA for quite a while. While I may have been lacking on the blogging attempt, my penchant for makeup has remained pretty much the same. Am still a drugstore addict, despite my best attempts. A makeup addict yes, but due to limited purse-strings and the plunging Ringgit, am still at heart, fundamentally a drugstore makeup addict.

And so while a great many purchases have gone undocumented herewith since my last post, I decided to just upload a quick one of a guilty haul I did while I was in Singapore a few days ago. I said guilty, because I really shouldn't be hauling that much, I certainly wasn't planning to. But oh well, the best laid plans of mice and men. In this case, of a makeup junkie who despite all good intentions to rehabilitate herself, has gone and done it....again.

I really couldn't help myself....so much RIMMEL!

You see, I really miss Rimmel. Many, many moons ago, this amazing UK drugstore cosmetic brand was actually available in Malaysia. I believe it was sold in Guardian, if am not mistaken. For some reason, the brand was pulled out from Malaysian shores, much to my dismay as I totally loved it, as even their nail polishes were great quality. It is however nowadays available in Watsons Singapore, which was where I found it, and purchased all of the above. They didn't carry the nail polishes though :( Nor the highly-touted Kate Moss edition.

Nevertheless, with my eyeballs bulging in happy recognition of the much-missed brand, I spent a great time perusing the kiosk. Lucky for me Watsons SG had a sale going on over the weekend I was in SG, with discounts going from 20% to 40% on most of the items I had purchased above. I could feel the cashier's recognition of a starved Malaysian makeup addict as he rung up the sale....

Also lucky for me, the kiosks at the Watsons outlet in Takashimaya, Ngee Ann City, were well-stocked and beautifully-arranged. I presume people who go to that side of Orchard Rd will only be looking at high-end stuff, hence the drugstore is left untouched...happily enough, for plebs like me. And queue lines were short. Oh happy happy was I.

Anyway, I haven't the heart to start testing out the items yet. I did get one item for a brand not available in Malaysia, called Australis, an Aussie drugstore brand. I was curious about it as it's a banana powder compact...very intriguing. I also got an eyebrow powder liner from Essence, which somehow had an Umbrella edition that doesnt seem available in Malaysia. While I was extremely tempted to pick up a blusher as the embossed picture really looked cute, it seemed a tad more powdery than the usual Essence blusher, so I opted for the eyebrow powder instead.

Will post on the items as and when they are used. Meanwhile will probably update on my other random makeup items. Much love to anyone patient enough to read this :D
your pencil eyeliner under towards a flame (try a lighter or a lit candle) for about one second and let it cool down for
15 seconds. This will make the eyeliner softer and easier to apply. Like them "gel" eyeliners that they all market.

The packaging is somewhat flimsy; the plastic feeling a bit frail, hence not something I foresee can be banged about in my handbag or chucked in higgledy piggledy like my other makeup stuff. The brush underneath is a handy plus if you're desperately without a brush when on the move, as long as the actual packaging survives being carried around.

I was so so excited at getting this blush. It looked sooo pretty in the pan. But while unwrapping the plastic seal and flipping over the pan to check the brush underneath, my finger accidentally dug in a little at a corner of the blush. Just a little.

And I was surprised to find that it was all powdery soft, not what I expected a baked blush to be. And so that little corner was dented. Haish.

And then when I swatched it proper, while I expected it so to be somewhat similar to Nars Orgasm, the powdery consistency again threw me off. The glitter in the blush appears a bit too big and the weirdest part is the colour itself doesn't seem to stick. So that pretty pink colour just doesn't seem to stick on to the skin but the glitter. It just looks a tad harsh.

Am kinda disappointed with this product, after all my expectations of it. For that price, I might as well get a Bourjois pot blush for cheaper.Bellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12296569122263705553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2265038935567336985.post-18326967572861052122015-10-31T22:20:00.000+08:002015-10-31T22:21:08.596+08:00E.L.F Beautifully Bare Blending Brush reviewYou won't believe this is a E.L.F. brush really, even if it is Limited Edition. A short-handled synthetic hair brush with a classic stainless steel ferrule, this ELF Beautifully Bare Blending Brush...is beautiful. It reminds me of Sephora's more pricey pro Airbrush brushes and feels the same way. Soft yet compact and dense at the same time, it's perfect for liquid foundation and picks up quite an amount of powder if used to finish off with powder. I haven't tried it with bronzer yet but looking at its narrow shape, it looks like it'd be perfect for bronzer too and can be used for blusher as well. It didn't shed as well.

This is another good bargain buy from ELF; totally worth it and recommend this too.

Studio Contouring Brush reviewI've come a long way from the gal who only ever used her fingers to put on foundation to one who have a whole bunch of brushes.

My more recent brush crazes of this year has been contouring brushes. I've been lusting after the NARS Ita brush. But...will not sink in RM300 for one. That's almost a return ticket to Bangkok!

So imagine my joy upon trawling the net and re-visiting a favourite online re-seller SGDrugstore, that ELF has a contouring brush under its Studio line. For a neat RM38. Yay!

ELF has really stepped up its game with a brush like this. Why spend so much on big name brushes when ELF comes up with comparable ones at so much more affordable prices?

I didn't experience much shedding and have washed this twice already since I bought it. The synthetic hair is soft, compact and just the right density to pack on some contour. I usually use my large Real Techniques powder brush to buff out any harsh edges but this brush is soft enough to buff out the edges too. A simple and quick demo can be seen here.

I LOVE this brush. It's a fantastic bargain buy and I might get a backup. Totally recommend this.
That started my first E.L.F. binge back in 2012.

Fast forward a few years later, guess what. Am still a sucker for bargains and still scour for worthy dupes of high-end products. I re-visited the SGDrugstore website and got nostalgic looking at the E.L.F. stuff and realised that the brand has some pretty interesting updates, especially its brushes. I'd originally wanted to get the new (apparently cult fav) ELF Studio eye blending brush, but it was out of stock. I ended up getting the Nars ITA lookalike ELF Studio Contouring brush and a so-called Limited Edition ELF Bare Blending brush, plus stocked up on my fav ELF Duo Contouring powder in St Lucia. And then...I saw the Milani baked blusher. After seeing so much about it online, I thought, why not. And so I had a mini SGDrugstore haul....
As the total damages came up to About RM156, I had a free PosLaju delivery (purchases above RM150 get free PosLaju deliveries). Am always impressed with the speed and efficiency of SGDrugstore posting things out, and these were also adequately bubble-wrapped.

Anyway, will post mini reviews on these lovelies.
Starting with the deluge of BB creams and face masks, the Korean makeup/skincare craze doesn't look like it's stopping any time soon.

And thus I got swept up with the recent 3CE hullabaloo. It was the first time I've ever attended a Sephora event proper. Also so far the only time I've rolled out of bed for a Korean brand (so to speak). And sadly. Because I didnt have anything else better to do.

My take on Korean makeup is that it's typically gimmicky and cutesy with pseudo-English names (Waterful? Glossing? 3 Concept Eyes??), with glitter. Lots and lots of glitter. And ultra-dewy looks marketed as "glossy" look. That sadly translates as pure oily looks for me.

I'd seen the brand being hawked over at Hermo.my and so piqued by its seeming ubiquitous appearance online, I thought why not. The worst is just that it justifies how I view most Korean makeup stuff (except perhaps Laneige) . And the best is just a trip to Sephora anyway. I tried looking for the brand's official website but the closest was at Stylenanda. The brand ambassador is Park Sora, who also came for the launch at Sephora Nu Sentral.

I have no idea who she is. But there were two Korean girls behind the line gasping "Sora Sora Sora..." while struggling to catch a glimpse of the Olive Oyl-like stick-thin figure that was her. As usual there were over-zealous PR girls and event people everywhere, with one trying to command people to clear a path for the oh-so-wonderful Park Sora. Although most of us just wanted to get to the actual makeup. Like seriously.

Granted, she has very, very good publicity pics from what I saw online but (no offence to her fans or her) she doesn't seem to exude much charisma in real life and unfortunately looks like a painted stick, with no personality. Was expecting a dewy-faced typical Korean beauty but she looked nowhere like her publicity pics, more pasty-faced due to too many layers of makeup, which looked like it was meant to conceal her less-than-perfect complexion. Such is the perils of Photoshop. Because no one can humanly look so perfect. Unless you're Jessica Alba. Or Priyanka Chopra. Or...wait there are truly crazy gorgeously perfect looking beings....but I digress.

After the longest time (because we were herded in by batches to get to the makeup counter; the one and only counter for the launch), we find out that they ran out of the limited edition lipstick <span style="font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: Arial; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin;">– one with a square pink casing with black polka dots, compared with the usual plain black ones. It had a beautiful plummy red that looked perfect for autumn and also for the usual berry Christmas looks. But out of stock. Which beggars the question: If we were supposedly the "first" to "view" the collection, how the heck can it already be out of stock? Unless they brought in like...3 pieces...for the whole of Malaysia. So it can be "Limited Edition".

Anyway, all the jostling and waiting, led to more jostling and waiting in order to actually try to swatch the makeup items. Couldn't test most of it as they set up only the actual counter (with no additional temp standalone island just for the launch), so the stampede to test the out the makeup meant it was simply too crowded for people to get to it. Got fed up really and it was just grab and go for a bit.

Which was probably makeup mistake number 1. Because I grabbed a lippie color that looked good swatched on the back of my hand. But was magically unattractively chalky and streaky on my lips, once I tested it back home. UWAAAAA...The color was called (made me guffaw),,,Daily Lady. Naah, no Lady will be going about with chalky, streaky pale lips Daily.
I don't get it. Look at it (the middle swatch, the pinkish tone). It looks gorgeous on my hand and in the bullet, (and not frosty as it appears in the pic above, must be the lights picking up on the shine). I was sold on the creamy nude pink with a touch of gloss.
It's basically a cream highlighter in stick form. I've only ever had powder highlighters so this was more of a novelty item for me. It has a subtle golden glow, not so much of a peachy glow, and wasn't too sticky. I've tested this a few times since, on the tops of my cheeks and just above my cupid bow; it's not bad, really, lending a subtle glow. For once a wearable Korean makeup item that has an actual subtle glow rather than in-your-face shimmer or oily mess being passed as off as "dewiness".

Another (thank gawd) wearable item I picked up was the 3CE Longwear Eye Crayon in the shade Syrup.

3CE Longwear Eye Crayon in the shade Syrup with colour swatch

This kinda reminds me of the Stila stick eyeshadows as well, exact same concept. I picked up this product because I thought I needed an easy-to-use inner eye highligher that can also double nay triple up as a brow highlighter and actual eyeshadow. With its pearly sheen, worked out well enough for lazy makeup dummies like me.

3CE Mini Trio brushes

And for getting three items, I got a trio of mini brushes. It's actually pretty cute. And looking at the quality and cut, possibly even usable. The brush hairs for the slanted foundation brush and the powder brush appear to be made from natural hair; very soft and looks good quality. The dual ended eye brush appears to be synthetic in comparison but looks pretty usable. I wont ever bother to buy mini brushes as I dont see the point; however these are a good bargain then, seeing the quality. Believe these were said to be worth RM120; thank gawd they were free for me.

The rest of the stuff that I got pretty much range between RM60 till RM70. Not too bad.

Anyway, these are not so bad overall. I only have these three 3CE items to really test out. But after swatching most of their items (during another separate trip to Sephora KLCC), I don't really see any standout item. In fact I dont really see any compelling reason to go out of my way to grab any more of their stuff. 'Nuff said on this till the next one!
Only because I quite love these drugstore beauties. This happens to be a combo of different drugstore brands I picked up over the last month during this dangerous sales period.

I should never be left alone near makeup counters. That much I know.

In any case I have been eye-ing Catrice's really cute eyeshadow palettes for a while. They really do look weareable and gorgeous. I couldn't decide between the Absolute Nude and the Absolute Matt; but chose Matt in the end. And surprisingly really loving it. I've mixed and matched them with my existing eyeshadows and gals, I can tell ya, this is a really good bargain buy. Because you can use it on its own or mix it up with your other colours to dress up or down. I especially love the 4th and 5th colours from the left of the palette: I use it to add dimension and depth either for a natural look, or blended in the sockets when using other striking, colours as well. Lighter colours for eyeshadows seem to always be a bit chalkier in general so the first two colours might not get as much love from me. Still such a steal; was around RM22 during the sale.

Catrice, Bourjois and Wet & Wild : Love 'em!

On another impulse, I picked up the Bourjois Air Mat foundation in 04 Beige, for about RM50. I've always been a bit of a Bourjois fan; they do cost a bit on the higher end for drugstore, but I do have staple favs from the brand, like its Bourjois Perfect 123 Foundation and its little pot blushers. I was feeling a bit of buyer's remorse until I put it on. Like. Wallah. It has a yellow undertone that you normally don't get with drugstore foundations (they're always somewhat with an ashy or too pink or peachy undertone). It was almost like my Estee Lauder Longwear foundation (my shade is Rattan)! Mightily pleased as it's really close to my real skintone. A little goes a long way with this one; probably why it's in a squeeze packaging rather than the brand's usual pump bottle. If you're not careful, it can turn cakey. I still use powder to set as I am the oilslick still at this age (uhuh), so it can last a little longer.

The Wet & Wild Brow Kit is a continuation of my more recent obsession of doing my eyebrows. I never used to do my brows. Until I discovered how much more polished I looked with touched up brows. Confession: I had a RM5 brow powder from Daiso for the longest time before that. Then a smattering of eyebrow pencils. I just realised this must be only my second brow product in powder format; this one was RM24.50. When I tried this, I didnt think the lighter powder would actually be quite dark. The wax was useful to keep the brows in place for a bit but may be a bit too hard. I foresee my search for the perfect eyebrow product continues...

As for the Wet & Wild lipstick, I just finally caved in to get a second one of my fav Megalast Lip Color in Rosebud. They slightly changed the packaging since my very first Megalast Lip color purchase way back then. Back then I had to buy them online. Now the Wet&Wild stuff are available in SaSa. The plastic casing of the lippie looked a bit sturdier somewhat. I'd bought a whole bunch back then because they were really cheap at RM16 online. This one was RM22 at SaSa though. My fav colours were Rosebud and Cherry Picking. Till today I still gravitate towards lippie colours similar to Rosebud O_O

Old habits die hard. Anyhow, till the next post!

Tarte is only available in Sephora in Malaysia, so on any given weekend, one might see me lingering at the Tarte counter in the nearest Sephora.

I was devastated when I missed out on the Rainforest palette. But really because I thought the colours were gorgeous and I 'd definitely wear them. And then the Tarte Noir palette came out. I still prefer the Rainforest colours, but this was too pretty to pass up. And while at Sephora, of course, the Tarte Slenderizer caught my eye as well.

Tarte Noir and Tarte Slenderizer: Too pretty to pass up

As always these Tarte purchases are in pretty and luxe packaging. The gold accents brings up the luxe factor quite a few notches.

Tarte Noir: Isn't that gorgeous?

The palette was just soo pretty to look at; and like the name, gives off a very Noir impression. Dark, purplish plums, with an iridescent highlighter and dark, matte liner, and a neutral blusher that I love. Though I really love Tarte blushers in general :)

The lighter matte colours were a bit chalky though, needed harder work to get the colour in. And these colours will most likely suit a cool, fair complexion more than my olive undertones, I have to admit. But it's soooo pretty to look at in the pan! (Yes, symptoms of a makeupholic and hoarder). I still enjoyed playing around with them though. Those who have other Tarte palettes might want to give this a miss though, as there may be similar colours there. For me, this is my first palette with eyeshadows, so that's okay (yes, justifying my makeupholic tendencies...but true!).

As for the Slenderizer, I couldnt pass it up. I thought the idea of a contouring shade on one end, and a highligher on the other, pure genius. For lazy klutzes like me..who was also coincidentally looking to test out a contouring crayon or cream, but not really into splashing out too much for it, this was just right. I started my shading/contouring curve with the Elf duo once upon a time, when I first started out being a true makeupholic. That duo is still one of my all-time favs, btw.

The Slenderizer is easy to use, a natural colour thats easy to blend and gives just a touch of a contouring shade. Am quite conservative when I use it still as I prefer a natural contouring. Nothing Kardashian about this one.

Tarte me up any time!

Wait. Shopping is dangerous. Period. Making it so easy to click and buy online just multiplied the dangers for a compulsive shopper like me.

In any case, the online campaign that Hermo.my has waged for months sure worked at click-baiting me. Gullible me got reeled right in with its recent cybersale. But I have to say, it was worth it.

My first ever purchases on Hermo.my: Laneige firming sleeping pack, Banila.co Clean It Zero and BH Cosmetics brushes

After hemming and hawing over the stuff I clicked into my shopping cart, doing mini researches and price comparisons, I finally settled on getting the Laneige Firming Sleeping Pack, Banila Co Clean It Zero and the cutest ever BH Cosmetics 11-pieces Polka Dot Brushes Set.

I've been using the Laneige Water Sleeping Pack and have gotten kind of hooked on it. A lazy gal, slapping it on at night makes me feel like I actually have a "night time skincare routine". Ha.

But really, I kinda like it because it does hydrate my combination skin without making it oilier or break out. In fact it helped to calm down any pimples threatening its way up my face. I've never tried the firming version and seeing it at about 30% off its usual price on the Hermo website led me to add it to my shopping cart. It's typically the more expensive among the Laneige stable of sleeping packs, so getting it at such a decent price (RM98.10), was quite the motivator.

As for the Banila Co Clean It Zero, I've been seeing so much of it being raved about online, that its RM49.90 deal gave me the impetus to add it in.

As for the BH Cosmetics 11-pcs Polka Dot brushes set...come on. Look at it. It's pink. With polka dots. Like its the biggest girlie mind-f@ck ever. I've been seeing it online for the longest time. Via local online resellers, it's usually about RM120 thereabouts. As am into my Real Techniques brushes (cheaper than the coveted Sigma but works well and are hardy), I've always ogled at them as pretty nice-to-haves, but not really something I'd splash out on. But then....oh Hermo.my. It was a mere RM79.20 on sale. So in it went into my cyber shopping cart.

I also plonked in It's Skin - Babyface It's Natural Eyebrow pencil (RM11.90) and Revlon Emery Boards (was 10 pieces for RM2.50!)...(both not in pic)..and finally proceeded to pay after sleeping over my cart choices.

The package came in a neat little box, with the products all bubble-wrapped neatly about 5 days later. It may have excited the receptionists as they hurriedly sent it over :D Well..it sure excited me!

The products came in perfect form and am really happy with the bargain prices I got them at. Will get around to reviewing them at some point. Right now am quite happy ogling my pretty new purchases like an addict.

Some of my Catrice lovelies. Brushes are from Real Techniques and Sephora.

So I have had some of my Catrice stuff for a month or two and tested them out. I have to say I made a beeline for the Blush Pearls in iROSEdescent from its Limited Edition Haute Future range only because it reminds me of Guerlain Meteorites. Except of course, this was much much cheaper, being about RM17.90 on sale. It's really quite cute.Colour-wise it lends a subtle pink sheen which I usually use like a highlighter over my actual blush (pic below).

The Defining Blush in Pinkerbell is actually a colour I won't normally get, seeing that it looks like quite a true pink in the pan. However as am trying out new colours, this way I get to do so without breaking the bank. I think this was like not more than RM15 on sale (cant remember exact pricings, sorry, since bought this a few months back). It really does pack a punch and needs a light hand and has a slight satin finish, which I prefer to totally matte anyway.

Another item that attracted me because it does look pretty, and also reminded me of Guerlain, is the Color Correcting Mattifying Powder in 010 Delicate Blossom, which was about RM22.90, I think.I've been swirling my powder brush and patting it over my foundation-ed face every since I got it. It's not bad at all, it didn't make me break out or turn ghostly white or anything. Just a normal finishing powder to me.

Don't mind the blemishes. Was testing out the Catrice blushes, powder, lipliner, highlighter and brow gel. Was too lazy to slap on a primer too, hence the pores.

And then the Photo Finish 18-Hour foundation, which I originally got in Sand Beige..and then later on added Caramel Beige. The colour range is just too limited...Sand Beige is a touch too pale and ashy, while Caramel is too dark, so I figured I'll mix the two. For 30ml of product in a well-designed glass bottle for RM28.90 during sale....it was too good to pass on to play with. Especially since I discovered that it doesnt break me out and I actually like that unusual cool, silicone-ish feeling of the foundation. I still love my Bourjois 123 but this makes for a change every now and then. It has a more dewy finish too and looks better as the day went on. I think it probably has similar properties to Revlon's ColorStay Whipped Foundation (did a review on that here), which is why it somehow looks better the longer you wear it, though its in liquid form. I cant wait till they bring in more of their other foundation range here.
I quite like the Lip Pencil actually. Creamy and long-lasting at RM14.90 with a selection of colours. I seem to be on an extended love affair with the colour red, hence chose this cherry red pencil aptly named And The Cherry on The Top. Its creamier and more long-lasting than Maybelline's.

Wasn't too keen on the Highlighter Pen, at about RM18.90, at first as it didnt appear to finely milled during my initial swap but as I swiped it as a brow highlighter, it turned out quite nice actually. Just need to blend it out more and I'd say it's a nifty easy-to-use brow highlighter rather than to highlight the inner corners of the eyes. It's not as fine as I'd prefer an inner eyes highlighter to be and the shape doesnt make it that easy to go poking in your inner eye corners either. Or maybe its just my eye shape, who knows.

Ah the Brow Gel. It's really long name would be the Eyebrow Filler Perfecting & Shaping Gel in 010, priced at around RM18.90 I think, and with a tinge of brown in it. I figured it would be a much cheaper alternative to Benefit's Brow Gel. It's wetter though and not as easy to control at first, perhaps because the brush is bigger than Benefit's, but it just takes a bit of practice. It's not too bad when you want a more natural, subtle eyebrow look.
The eyeshadows look beautiful too and even though I don't wear much eyeshadow at all, the moment I saw the green single eyeshadow in Don't Touch My Mosserati (yes, their products do have long but cute names), I gotta have it in my collection. It's got great colour payoff, smooth and lasts reasonably well with eye primer (but note I have extremely oily eyelids and no eyeliner, shadows whatsoever have survived them, with primer making it marginally better). It's a beautiful mossy green with flecks of gold in it and was about RM12.90, I think.

All in all, not too bad really, especially for beauty on a budget. This line really will give the likes of Maybelline and Loreal a run for their money as it has a much more extensive line, reasonable quality and very competitive pricing. It's almost like Silkygirl's pricing but with better quality and much more de riguer or fashionable colours and packaging. I love their packaging, sturdy and quality stuff, better than Wet & Wild's, if looking at a similar price and colours point of view. Their eyeshadows and blushers are definitely better than Wet & Wild's too.

While it seems to me they are passing on whatever's discontinued
in Europe to the Asian market, most drugstore brands seem to do that to us anyway (hey!). Another thing I noticed is that
their products are made everywhere...from Italy, Poland, Germany to
Taiwan and PRC.The QC must be impressive.

In any case, this brand seemed to be one of the most complete drugstore ranges I have seen here in Malaysia. What other brands have things like Brow Gel, Concealer set (this I will review separately...this post is too long as it is), primers, blush pearls, wide ranges of liners, lippies, mascara, nailpolish etc imaginable (talking little drugstore here, not brands with standalone stores)? Just wish more foundation and powders will make their way too as I see on their website they have some pretty interesting stuff there. There's plenty of high-end dupes to be had here and that's kind to your pocket too.

Which is probably why I have gotten the most diverse range of stuff from this one brand alone. I just noticed that as I put together this post :D

Enjoy!

And let's carry on with my Catrice fascination, shall we. I normally do my own nails, something surprisingly a lot of my girlfriends find unusual. I love doing my own nails. It's almost a de-stress method to me. The handiwork may not turn out perfect but it's all in the process. Besides, it's just so much more cost-effective. I'd rather spend that amount on a really good meal but then am a hardcore foodie :D Apart from an almost hardcore drugstore makeup junkie :D

Anyway before I digress further, I got hold of the Catrice Ultimate Nail Lacquer in 61 Greige! The New Beige and a Limited Edition Haute Future in C04 GaLILACxy.

Now, am usually into the typical reds and pinks and bright summer colours. And not so into glitter and all that shiny, metallic or tinfoil-ish looking stuff. So these two are quite the departure from my usual picks. After surveying my collection (bright and pastel stuff mostly) I decided to not keep getting similar colours...haha. And yes, these were ten percent off at Guardian's. I never really buy anything that's not on sale really :D

I know I'm kinda late on to the Greige bandwagon. Like maybe a good 3
or 4 years late?? since Chanel first introduced it on the catwalk with
the shade Particulliere. But then I was never a trend follower. Just do
and wear whatever, people.

I actually didnt plan to
get the frosty lilac that is GaLILACxy but for some reason it caught my
attention. It seems to be from Catrice's seasonal range..most likely for
Christmas to suit the winter theme. All their Haute Future stuff has
that metallic sheen. Meanwhile the Greige is probably from the brand's
permanent colour collection.

I didn't consciously plan
to use one over the other either but like everything I do, I just went
with the flow and I have to say the effect is quite unlike my usual
cheerful colours. It is a very wintry look. And seeing that it's pretty much tropical humidity out here in Malaysia all year round, that's probably the reason why I subconsciously have been not into any icy, metallic looks.

However this effect turned out to be quite pretty.

And Limited Edition Haute Future in CO4 GaLILACxy over the Greige.

The GaLILACxy alone would have been a sheer metallic sheen with a hint of lilac in it. And Greige would have been, well, greyish beige. While the Greige could stand on its own and would have been office-appropriate, the GaLILACxy looks like it was made to be used over other colours.

Together, however, gave this cool, out-of-this-galaxy metallic look, somewhat not captured in the pic. The Greige with GaLILACxy over it became a kaleidoscopic metallic lilac sheen..an updated modernistic finish with colours changing wherever the light hits it.

The consistency for Greige was a bit thick and could streak if not handled properly since it also does seem to dry fast. It was not too bad, being opaque, but two coats are best. GaLILACxy was really rather sheer on its own. I can foresee I'd be using it over other colours to change up whatever's already in my collection. So that's pretty handy too.

The brush is cut in a rather uneven manner though. It has that flat broad brush that I like but cut into a pointy tip. It's probably the rough brush material that made the brush uneven. Otherwise it would have been a dream to use, like Essence's . Bottle designs are pretty and look pricey. Though the cap for GaLILACxy somehow went a bit wonky with my very first twist (ha). As long as it still can twist shut and keep the polish alright, should be fine. Though that means the quality of the cap for the Haute Future line needs a bit more upgrading.

All in all, all good!

I've been MIA forever. And since then I have gotten tonnes...yes, tonnes...of stuff. Just exaggerating (kind of). But being the bargain hunter that I am, I get most excited with drugstore beauty bargains. As evidenced by my excitement over finally getting hold of Bourjois last year in selected local Watsons.

This year it would have to be finally getting Catrice in selected Guardian stores. You know that heart-pumping, eye-popping joy one feels about seeing what you've only lusted over for so long ...yes, talking about drugstore brand Catrice (not heartthrob Chris Evans nor the now-off-the-market George Clooney) here. Only hardcore junkies will understand :P

First sighting of Catrice and boom! Had to restrain myself from getting one of every thing.

To top it off, Guardian was having a sale at the time. So yes, I sort of went a bit mad. Haven't really stopped since. Mind you, this was about three months ago though, before GST kicked into the country and everybody's pockets, especially us makeup-lovin' ladies.

My selection was prompted by my intense curiosity to try one of every category although I managed to restrain myself. So got myself the following during the first round:

1) 18-Hour Photo Finish Foundation in 010 Sand Beige
2) Defining Blush in Pinkerbell
3) Colour Correcting Mattifying Powder
4) Limited Edition Haute Future Blush Pearls in C01 iROSEdescent
5) Liquid Eyeliner in Meet Joe Black
6) Smokey Eyes Pencil in 010 The Black Earl and 030 It's a Pleasure Treasure
7) Made To Stay Highlighter Pen in 030 Eye Need
8) Lashes To Kill Volume Mascara with False Lash Fibres

I think all 8 items costed an estimated not more than RM150, much thanks to the sale. I actually went on to add a few other products after that simply because the European brand really does have a wide range of product types (like everything) and this with Malaysia still not carrying its entire range. Imagine if the full range was here...which they should with the economy being it is, bet a drugstore brand with such competitive price points will have consumers jumping for joy and other borderline expensive drugstore brands like Maybelline, Loreal and Revlon, a real run for their moolah :D

I wish Rimmel,Covergirl and Physician's Formula were back in Malaysia too. Ahhh..... *drugstore makeup junkie fantasy* ....

Anyway, back to Catrice on hand. I tend to slowly use my purchases bit by bit and not all at once so any upcoming reviews will be staggered throughout and punctuated by other items. Patience.....

:)

Aurawhite Beauty 15X Stemcell Collagen at RM180 per one month's supply bottle.

And so I have succumbed to the bandwagon. Out of sheer curiosity and also more probably because am a sucker for beauty and wellness stuff. The only other such beauty "supplements" I ever tried was from the Kinohimitsu brand because it looked more legit than the stuff being hawked over FB or blogspots. But that one month trial didnt yield any result so didnt bother to continue with it.

As for the above supplement, I've seen it being hawked all over social media for some time, and of course made more well-known by its infamous former ambassador but I've never succumbed to trying it out. Until I saw it being sold in SaSa.

Like really? Somehow it making it into SaSa stores and also being GMP and KKM certified made it legit for me to test it out. And so I did.

It was a bit steep at RM180 per bottle, came with a free pink shaker and whitening soap. I havent tried the soap but it sure has a strong perfumy smell. There's a tiny little pink scoop buried in the depths of the bottle so recommend that you shake the bottle till you hear the scoop hitting the inner lid. Because I made the mistake of not knowing there was a scoop buried in there and had used a tablespoon for the first three days I tried the product. God knows I probably ingested more of the product than I was supposed to the first three days...

And my belated additional research on the product yielded blogspots recommending that the product not be taken during the first three days of having your period. Apparently it can mess with your cycle, so, heads up on that. Its not mentioned on the actual product but some online sellers are all listing that particular info out.

How to take it is basically first thing in the morning and last thing at night; two scoops shaken in 120ml of water. And then to drink plenty of plain water (bare minimum of 1.5 litres although 2 litres is more like it) and not to take coffee and or tea. Yeah. Like I can give up my coffee. Though I try to limit it to one cup coffee and one cup green tea. And then plenty of plain water.

Anyhow am about 12 days into taking it. The product claims you can see result in as early as 7 days (!) though for me the main changes I underwent was that the first three days I did get to do number two a bit more than usual. The product does claim it detoxifies. And my lips felt more moist and plumped up and dare I say, slightly pinker? Am naturally fair to medium tone and tan easily so cant really comment on the getting fairer bit just yet since I just went under the hot scorching sun around the time I started taking the product. I think it may have helped a bit with my pimple scars though, I see them lightening a bit faster than they normally would. Am hoping it will also help with my enlarged pores. Will have to wait and see for any other possible changes.

Anyhow the product claims are as follows (the England a bit fail on their packaging and promo materials so I edited it a bit here and there, and my comments are in brackets):

AURAWHITE STEMCELL COLLAGEN (Special Edition)

♡ With Premium 15x Stemcell
♡ Faster lightening of skin (because I don't think skin can be "enlightened")
♡ Skin more elastic and supple (maybe, too early to tell for sure)
♡ Activates collagen (i hope so so it will lead to the above)
♡ Anti Aging (really hope so)
♡ Improves the body 's immune system (hope so too but I'd just recovered from my cough when I took this)
♡ Solving skin problems such as acne, pigmentation & melasma (not sure because I typically get minor breakouts around the time of my period, nothing too major)
♡ Reduces wrinkles, fine lines and premature aging on your face (i hope so)
♡ 60 % of the skin more moist (another hope)
♡ Helps dry, scaly or dull skin (a repeat of the above)
♡ Addressing the problem of hair loss and scalp issues (another plus for me who is constantly losing hair)
♡ Reducing scars & dark spots (so hoping so, ithink it may have helped a bit with the pimple scars)
♡ Reduce Cellulite (didnt see this happening...yet, I hope)
♡ Reducing breaks in the heel (this too)
♡ Reduces stretchmark (nor this)
♡ moisturizes dry lips / peeling (this looked like it did happen)
♡ Detoxifies toxins in the body (first few days for me)
After non-stop testing over a few days, I have to say for my combination/oily skin, I've found my go-to drugstore foundation in Bourjois 123 Perfect foundation. Yay!

Blends out beautifully. Medium and buildable semi-matte coverage, SPF10.

After a brief dalliance with the highly-recommended Loreal's True Match foundation, which ended up so-so, not enough coverage and not helping my oily complexion much, I can finally say I have found The One, for drugstore category.

The Bourjois 123 Perfect foundation is great for a semi-matte look. I like how it looks natural before setting with powder but then knowing how my oily face will shine soon enough, I usually set it with loose powder.

This time around I tried my newly-purchased Bourjois Loose Powder in 02. There were only two colours available, I chose the darker powder, which looked like it has a bit more yellow in it. Unlike the foundation, the packaging for the loose powder was a bit flimsy with a basic powder puff. The texture was not as finely milled as I would prefer but nevertheless does the job. Dabbing it on reminded me of the old aunties in the past when they put on "bedak sejuk" :D ...rofl...but the excess powder can easily be buffed off. Well, not bad for its price though not a must have.

Then also tried my second addition to the pot blush, this time in Rose Ambre. I was kinda disappointed with the texture of this one compared to my first purchase, which was of Healthy Mix. This latest addition was powdery and didnt blend so well. The colour looks a bit dark rather than a healthy flush on me as well. Somehow I feel the quality of the packaging is not as good as before too but I could be wrong.

Back to the 123 Perfect foundation, it claims to have 3 correcting pigments that claim to be anti-dark circles, anti-dull complexion and anti-redness, and to last up to 16 hours. Sounds like a high order but basically what it did for me was that it evened out my complexion and if I needed more coverage, I could blend on some more. It has a semi-matte velvety finish which I pretty much prefer over to matte. As for the 16 hour claim, not with my skin. I typically have to touch up 4 or 6 hours in general, but it really depends if am indoors or outdoors in this humid weather.

The sturdy packaging is fantastic as well, a slim glass bottle with pump encasing 30ml worth of product. Retails at RM55.90. The pot blush retails at RM39.90 while the Loose Powder retails at RM49.90. However I bought all three during a sale at the main kiosk in Sunway so had a really great deal with 20% off.
It was going for about RM20 (similar price range with Revlon), and I love it! The broad brush makes it especially easy to use and the formula is not bad at all. Dries quite fast and two coats will do. Its a gorgeous skyblue shade to add to my collection.
When I got my first set of brushes ever from Coastal Scents, like two years ago, I have since moved on to Real Techniques as my go-to brushes, with some odd bits of brushes I picked up from here and there.

Using brushes meant having the added step of caring and cleaning for them too. All the while I've been simply drying them laid on a face towel, brush head downwards at the sloping tilt of the top of my glamorous washing machine.

I've heard and seen pictures of this mysterious contraption called Benjabelle, that make-up aficionados with plenty of brushes to dry, use with rapturous comments on its usefulness. As always, gullible as I am, the price for one still made me hesitate. The cheapest variant still went for slightly above a hundred Malaysian ringgit. After all the sloping top of the washing machine seemed fine - until the cat decides to jump over it, or the brushes get knocked off when someone over vigorously tosses their laundry to get to the laundry basket.

To cut long story short, I was at this gem of a stall in Midvalley, that sells makeup brushes and bits and bobs, to pick up a disposable mascara wand (I use it to brush shape up my eyebrows prior to drawing them in mostly though it comes in real handy to separate mascara-ed eyelashes too) and add on my brush protector nets. Then lo and behold...I see behind the counter:

My dupe Benjabelle! Excuse the paper bag, its there exclusively to cover the unsightly background. This was assembled at home, after purchase naturally :P

What got me even more excited was the pricetag. A mere RM55! Like less than half the price of the same Benjabelle model. After comparing pictures of the variant from the website , I conclude that what I purchased is a Sunflower Brush Tree that sells for like RM140 ish here (plus or minus shipping) through local re-sellers.
I was quite excited to try out my purchase and did so as soon as I got home. Washed the stippling and highlighter/concealer brushes that I coincidentally bought previously from the same stall and test-drove my dupe Benjabelle. Added on my Elf eyeshadow brush to test the smaller holder. Worked fine too.

Ahh. The finds one finds. The quality of brushes sold at that stall is pretty good too (I sense a review coming on...). It's on the basement floor, along the way that connects to the Garden's food hall area.

:) Love a good bargain.Bellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12296569122263705553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2265038935567336985.post-66625085926738934922014-07-29T02:48:00.000+08:002014-07-29T02:50:09.625+08:00Mini haul! Bourjois and InglotSo I've been majorly absent from logging in my beauty purchases. Yes, I have been lazy. And busy busy with work, and now after an almost mini breakdown, have now taken a step back to find ways to destress. Which led me to resurrect this blog again.

As can be imagined, my collection has truly grown by leaps and bounds, although I wish I can say the same about my actual makeup skills. One major development I can report since my humble beginnings of actually purchasing and learning to use brushes to apply foundation is that...I now can only apply my foundation with a brush. I cant go back to my Neolithic days of only using my fingers (ick!).

Anyway before I go on rambling, during the weekend I went on a mini bender and finally to satisfy my curiosity, went to Sunway Pyramid to get a good look at Malaysia's first Bourjois kiosk. Haha, sounds pathetic, but it was just last year that I went around Bugis Street and then Marina Square in Singapore, hot on the Bourjois trail.

And yes, while I was in Sunway Pyramid, I went back to where it started it all for me when it came to that wonderful Polish brand, Inglot. Ahhh..memories! My very first blusher that ever hit pan was that very first Inglot blusher.

The Bourjois kiosk was a little bit of a letdown. It still wasn't as extensive as the one in John Little over at Marina Square. As can be seen just from the range of shades; they only had up to 53. They don't carry the cream blushers either :( But they did have the nail polish. And I couldnt resist getting a dreamy sky blue. The so-called cult Healthy Mix foundation that I first got last year was a little too healthy for me (I did gave it to my Mum, for whom the shade and formulation suited better) and so this time around (since they had an offer for the foundation and powder items), I decided to try the 123 Perfect Foundation instead. Also decided to try the loose powder. And added another of those cute round pot blushes. I really adored the Healthy Mix blusher that I first bought hence this tentative addition of a different shade.

As for Inglot..I couldnt resist. If you must know, I have added a few Inglot lipsticks, eyeshadows and its loose powder to my collection since that first time I fell in love with this line of cosmetics. And now after a long while, this blusher with its case. Plus this new product they have, essentially a lipliner but doubles up as a matte lipstick.

Anyway, thats a little tease on what I just got; will update on the reviews. Be prepared with me going full blast putting up a number of posts :D
Its good to be back. Wake up, it's makeup, people! Bellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12296569122263705553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2265038935567336985.post-81993307421568747052013-05-12T22:10:00.001+08:002013-05-12T22:13:32.595+08:00In trend cherry red (pink?) lipsticksI don't know why I ended up with as many as three lippies in a month.

(Or let's give up the pretense of needing any reason to splurge on makeup. Period :P.)

And two being very close in colour too. At least one is more towards a coral peach colour. Whilst I bought three lippies, for the sake of this post, let's focus on the two that's very much in the cherry red category, which are the Inglot lipstick in 140 and the Wet & Wild lipstick in Cherry Picking.

I'd taken pics and swatches of all three but didnt have a pic of the Loreal one on my lips. It's also the only one that is a different color altogether, a peachy pink. I suspect I didn't really pay attention to doing an actual lip swatch on the Loreal Fairy Touch because well, it's just not as excitingly striking as the other two :P

Cherry red (or pink, depending which end of the spectrum you're looking at) lippies seemed to be the trend for Spring and yes, I got carried away. Not because they are supposedly in trend but because am on this weird colour craze still.

The Inglot, if you can tell, has more of a blue tone in it, and the texture is more moist compared to the Wet & Wild lipstick, which is a deeper cherry colour, more to red. At RM50, it is also more pricey than the RM16 I paid for the Wet & Wild one online. Both however are crazy pigmented, amazing lovely color payoff that stays on the lips. While the Inglot is more moist on the lips, the Wet & Wild has a more matte texture and may be too drying for some (but nothing slicking on lipbalm prior can't fix), both have great staying power. In pictures they look rather pink but really, in real life they are more towards cherry red, especially the Wet & Wild lipstick. The Inglot is almost a bright fuchsia but not quite somehow, probably because it has more of a blue rather than purple undertone?

I love love them both but they still need guts to carry off.

If the Loreal Color Riche in Fairy Touch doesn't seem to get much love from me, I guess that's because it's kinda...boring. Well, it looked really great swatched on my hand in the store, I thought it could be the "My-Lips-But-Better" (MLBB) kind of lippie. Also I was actually on the lookout for that infamous Loreal Fairest Nude that everyone seems to be talking about online as the MLBB lippie of all time. Looks like they just don't have that for the Malaysian market (like everything else that rocks for the drugstore category). Truth be told, am not a Loreal fan at all based on earlier experiences with the entire line (their skincare and makeup just doesn't suit me). But after a long, long time of not having anything Loreal in my stash (except for hair products), I thought, why not just try looking for that nude lippie. And Guardian was having this fantastic sale. So, went hunting, couldn't find that particular shade but thought the Fairy Touch looked pretty close to being a MLBB and so got it. I got it at around RM22 on discount, if I remember correctly.

I have to say the box it came in looks pretty classy, made it look more than just drugstore. The lippie casing is the same as it always has been (gold, square) but Loreal always has had pretty nice packaging. Unfortunately not really into the actual colour on my lips although I've been slicking it on at work for the past week to see if it'll grow on me. It's a coral-ish peach that looks...I don't know...bright? Pale? Pale-ish bright kind of coral? The texture and consistency appears creamy but its not as long lasting as the other two lippies.

And I also remembered why I've been off Loreal lippies in the first place. Maybe it's just me but then I remembered my sister reporting the same thing before: it makes the lips dry. Not at first but overtime as you wear it over the days. I haven't had dry skin highlighted on my lips for a pretty long time, possibly because I use lipbalm a lot at night or in general. So I was surprised why my lips suddenly had flakiness highlighted on them when I wear the Loreal lippie.

Anyway, thank Gawd it didn't cost me too much. I'll probably give it away to someone who likes the color, so usually my mistake purchases get a home with those who actually likes or looks good in them.

This lippie adventure has whetted my appetite for more lippies though...dangerous! Especially the Wet & Wild ones...at RM16 a pop at local online store (www.colourscosmeticsmalaysia.com), you really can go a bit wild without breaking the bank.
Well, that's changed since I picked up a lil something during my trip down to Singapore recently.

It is the Murad Skin Perfecting Primer from its Hybrids range, and for my skin type, I picked up the variant for Blemish and Shine Control. It's also available in Dewy or Matte variants.

Murad Skin Perfecting Primer...about RM165 in Sephora Malaysia for a 30ml pump bottle. Apparently you can buy it for the same price at online store, Zalora.

I actually got it at a Murad kiosk in a mall in Singapore during an offer for SGD50, which was a "steal", considering it is RM165 in Malaysia. Still, for me, it is steep. In fact, this primer is probably the single most expensive makeup product I may have in my collection (discounting my Smashbox eyeshadow pallette, which is totally different as it is a pallette full of colours rather than one single item).

Yet it is truly one buy I do not regret at all and am glad I did.

Because this primer ROCKS. Yes, it does. I don't normally give all out positive reviews on things but I have no reservations whatsoever to give full points for this Murad primer. The only thing that detracts is its price point but then it is really worth the moolah.

It is super lightweight, has no silicone feel to it whatsoever, has no SPF either and blends into your skin like nothing I've seen before. And and....it really, truly makes your makeup last all day long. AND it did not break me out at all but made my skin look better too. I've even taken to sometimes going out without makeup but still putting this over my moisturiser before rushing out the door.

My complexion has improved to the point that I've taken to not really wearing all that much makeup these days actually, and this primer seems to help too.

Truly a Holy Grail product for primers and worth every cent.
I used to break out all the time and for reasons am not sure of either. I'd usually break out at the sides of my face like near my jawline or forehead. Also I broke out during the time I was trying out new products, especially primers, something which I never wore before. Or new foundations.

Then I changed my facial cleansers (yes, I used different ones for different reasons) and added on using a non-alcoholic toner. For my oily combination skin, I'd been using a makeup remover and a scrub/mask cleanser, before putting on moisturizer. I kept breaking out at one point and had added on a salicylic acid-based pimple cream as well but nothing seemed to stop the outbreaks.

Then I realised it was probably because of the primers I was using and also maybe my makeup cleanser wasnt thoroughly cleaning off the makeup? Anyway in the process I stopped using primers except for the days when I really needed the makeup to last and look perfect. I discovered the (expensive) Biotherm primer just wasn't working for me and gave it away. I was also using the ELF Mineral-Infused primer, which feels more silicone-based and didnt break me out as much, but I only used it to finish it up. And once that was finished, I just took a break from primers in general.

Meanwhile I switched my cleansers. Was walking around Sephora and loved Soap & Glory's cute packaging (yes, sucker for pink and catchy copy). And saw their "Scrub Your Nose in It" cleanser, a "multi-tasking scrub and mask marvel". It claims to help refine large pores and prevent blemishes, and has a special fruit-acid formula. It was RM39.90 and I figured I have nothing to lose so I got one. One year later and am on to my perhaps fifth tube of it with no regrets.

My facial cleansing regime these days...nothing fancy, mostly drugstore and works for me so far.

The Soap & Glory cleanser is essentially a scrub, which can be used as a mask if left on the face for about 3 minutes. Pretty easy and pleasant to use and I love the results from the first use till now. From the first use, my face cleared up and brightened up. Maybe because the cleanser's fruit-acid ingredients did it. I even use it on my back which had some acne and it cleared that up too.

On top of that I started using the Biore Cleansing Oil. I used to have all these reservations about it as I cant imagine getting rid of makeup without the traditional good old swipe with cotton-wool. Then I just gave it a try. It really is a make-up remover wonder. Not only is it cost-saving (I've never paid full price for this, always stocking them up during Guardian or Watson's sales at about RM19-ish each), it is planet-saving in the sense that you don't need to use cotton-wool as well. And time-saving. You just pump out the amount you need to massage the makeup off your face while you're in the shower, and then you just wash it all off under the shower.

And then I'll use the Soap & Glory scrub. And after out of the shower, I'll pat on the O'Slee Rosehip Beauty Solution Advanced Formula III...a mouthful for what is essentially a rosehip-based moisturising toner. I discovered this toner when I was desperate about how to put back the moisture and glow to my face and to close the gaping pores. Getting older, those are the things that one will see the most, even for combination faces. I was amazed that upon using this rather non-descript (even with bad English on its packaging) product, it actually did help to smoothen my face, closing the pores a bit more and prepping the skin for my moisturiser. This is the only constant item I use from the brand, being onto probably the fifth bottle of it too.

Every now and then I use the Cetaphil cleanser as well but usually in the mornings since the face just have the night's moisturiser on it and so won't need such deep-cleansing. I used to use Cetaphil when my face was breaking out before and I didnt want to overly aggravate it with scrubs all the time. Now its more of a once-in-a-while in the mornings or when my face feels a little dry.

All in all, that's my cleansing routine. Simple, fairly cheap, and so far works for me. Small changes to my products went a long way in clearing up my spots.

As for primers, I didnt totally swore off them...I finally found one that worked...but that's for another post.. :D
While I did attempt some Yves Rocher products, apart from the Elixir 7.9 serum, most are a tad bit oily for me. Origins seemed really enticing but its just outrageously expensive so have been putting off getting anything new until I'd was totally down to the last dollop of my freebie night cream.

Then I'd wandered into The Body Shop to browse around as a makeup/skincare geek would and lo and behold I saw a line I haven't seen before - Nutriganics. The line claims to be made of ingredients that are 98% of natural origins and contains no parabens nor silicones. Plus its basically half the price of an Origins night cream at RM95 for a 50ml pump bottle. So I was sold.
The cream claims to be "extra rich, softens and reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles." It also lists itself to treat the first signs of ageing. Well, that sounded good to me, even if (cross my fingers) I dont actually have wrinkles as yet, but at 30 plus, I am ageing. Among its other claims:

- Moisturises up to 12 hours
After using this for the past two weeks, I have to say I really like it. It has a slight herbally smell, which I don't mind, and I dont need much to cover my face and neck. I usually do a half pump, and it's sufficient. The cream itself isn't too heavy and absorbs well into my skin, and I have combination skin. And when I wake up in the morning, even if I didnt have enough sleep, it somehow gives my complexion a refreshed look. And that is amazing, I have to say.

A colleague even asked what I've been using because apparently my face glows. So yes, very highly recommended. A good buy for me, hurrah! So I've been sort of dying of curiosity about the Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation for the longest time.

As always, this swatch addict kept swatching it out whenever she passes by the Revlon counter. The pudding-like consistency really grabbed my attention; it's nothing like I've ever seen before. It may have been out in the market for some time now but I took my time with it as I remember I havent really been a fan of the cult 24H Colorstay liquid foundation in the first place. And this happens to be from the same variant but different formula, while still upholding its 24 hour staying power claim. As an Asian with some yellow undertone, Revlon liquid foundations haven't been a good match for me either.

But as usual, I succumbed. Time after time I tested out that delicious pudding-like consistency with its silky touch, and I finally caved in. I figured why not try it in Medium? Sand Beige appears a bit too white for me while Warm Golden turns out to be a misnomer as its not all its cracked up to be either with its decidedly pinkish undertones. What Warm Golden? More like a Rose Gold. I don't know why NC30 peeps all over the the webworld claims its a fit for them, it really has a pink undertone. Anyway Revlon has great stuff but it still hasn't done much in the colors to suit Asian skin colors dept or maybe for some strange reason they don't put out as much color choices in Malaysia.
Without further ado, once purchased I gave it a whirl. I love that smooth, creamy feel but one should use a spatula or a Qtip. It's horrifyingly unhygienic to be dipping your fingers in there each time although it does bring back memories of being a child and dipping into the condensed milk.

Blended out...see the slight whitish cast? Maybe its the SPF?

My first try of the 250 Medium Beige was a bit of a downer. It still had a whitish cast over my complexion (which is typically a NC30-35 for Mac). While it was fun to slide on the foundation with my fingers (I havent been using my fingers for foundation ever since I discovered the flat top kabuki and the stippling brush), I dont see how this foundation can be easy to use for a get-up-and-go-in-the-morning kind of person like me. With fingers being the best applicator for this foundation, and the way that it's packaged (in a glass jar), it has a tendency to get messy too.

I have combination skin that veers towards being oily so this creme-like foundation, for me, needs to be set with some powder. At my first try I'd probably put on a bit too much and it had a mask-like effect even after extensive finger blending. Boo. I also waited out for the foundation to set on its own for a bit before patting on powder. And even after setting with powder, it actually turned into a virtual oil slick at the end of the day.Probably our tropical weather here doesnt help.

That was my first impression. Not too impressed at all.

Then I tried it again. And again. But as an undereye concealer when I was rushing out the door. And then when I had a bit more time, as a foundation again but with very little being dabbed and blended on. That's when I found that its wearable for me. Because of its creamy, polymer-ish feel, I found it perfect as an undereye concealer as it doesnt highlight any creases or fine lines, and as it does have a whitish cast, it helps hide undereye circles. I guess because it has dimethicone as its top ingredient.

As a foundation, I find I only need to use very little blended into parts of my face that needs a little more help. Then it didnt look so mask-like. And I could even skip the powder-setting bit when I was in a rush although it would help to set it a bit more. The foundation's meant to be more for a dewy look though since it is a creme makeup. It claims to be talc and paraben-free, and with SPF20, so I quite liked those ideas. Am not sure about it being able to last 24 hours though because I use my fav Dr Murad Hybrids primer anyway.

So, not bad, but not a must-have to me.After all that lusting and reading glowing reviews about it, I'd expected a lot out of it.If you can find a match for your skintone and if you have drier skin, it could work way better probably.
It's been loved up by so many online I naturally had that at the top of my things-to-get when I came down to the land of many fines (i.e. Singapore, and hey, they have fridge magnets proclaiming themselves as that).

It was pretty steep for drugstore...hence my initial hesitation when I ran into the counter at BHG Bugis Plaza (I think thats where it was but definitely at Bugis St). My first take was..whoa tiny bottle and steep price for drugstore! I tested and tested and hung out there so long the SAs must have thought I was some bug-eyed idiot (or in local speak: jakun). I ended up with some other items (which I will duly talk about later on). I eventually did cave in and got it at John Little over at Marina Square (which btw had a bigger collection and other interesting drugstore brands) for around SGD34.00 (methinks its thereabouts, or was it SGD34.90).

Tada! Costed me an arm and a leg in drugstore terms...damyou Youtube beauty gurus :P

I had tested it so much at BHG, where they only had three shades (51, 52 and 53), which to me then looked rather light. I couldnt decide if I was a 53 but then I found a 54, which said Beige, at John Little's. Am typically a beige for most foundations and it seemed to match me so I bagged it.

After blended in. The formula is rather watery and very blendable and I love the floral smell.

And so I testdrove it once back home.

ALAS! Turns out the colour appears a bit too dark for me even after I've taken in quite a bit of sun with my outdoor activities. The consistency of the foundation is such that it sheers out so I could probably winged a 52 even (since my neck is actually quite fair).

In any case I still love the foundation itself though probably because I love the floral fragrance and its blendability and texture. On my combination skin and in this humid weather however, this mix is just a bit too "healthy" as I ended up looking a bit too "glowy" aka oily. Patting down powder helped a bit but the oil peeked through three hours in, for me.

I think this formula would be great if I were to use it in drier, colder climates but in our tropical heat, all that "radiance" would probably translate into an oil slick for oily, combination skins. Perhaps dry, mature skins can pull it off here too.

I love the bottle actually and the pump dispenser and truly love the floral fragrance too. Some might find the fragrance a bit strong but to me, it's quite comforting, and it doesn't stay on in any case. For 30ml of product and no SPF, its a bit steep. I foresee myself passing it on to my mum as she'd might be able to pull off the colour and formula.

I haven't given up on Bourjois yet! I got the blusher....heheh...Bellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12296569122263705553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2265038935567336985.post-23540373618316969702013-05-03T19:38:00.002+08:002013-05-03T19:38:48.675+08:00Happy tangerine nails... Essence Colour & GoI was down in Singapore recently and had done a bit of damage (not inclusive of my numerous damages before or since btw). I'll start slow though and kick off with a nail polish I got at the local Singapore Watsons for SGD6.90, if am not mistaken. I just loveee the colour when I saw it on the rack and although I keep telling myself enough of nail polishes, couldnt help it. Consoled myself saying its just a drugstore brand..Essence...and even after conversion into Msian Ringgit, still not breaking the bank.

Essence used to be available in Malaysia and had its own standalone kiosks (in Midvalley and along Bt Bintang near Lot 10) and I don't know why they all seemed to have disappeared! I used to adore browsing through their products and not feeling guilty if I got anything from there as they really were very well-priced, reasonable quality drugstore products (although in Malaysia they seem to open kiosks rather than be in actual drugstores). In fact, in my earlier post, I mentioned I got my first beauty blender lookalike sponge at their Bt Bintang outlet.

Anyway, this one's on the Essence nailpolish from it's Colour & Go range in the colour 117 I'm So Very. Interesting name, yes? Took me a while to locate it too, very tiny print near the barcode. It's a beautiful orange, almost burnt sienna colour; or in the fashion parlance of all things orange: a tangerine shade. Interestingly the nailpolish is even made in France; imagine how super cheap it really is in the EU.

The nail polish brush doesnt disappoint, in fact better than Revlon's, or it's just me who loves those firm, flat type nailpolish brushes as they really make application a breeze. The colour payoff was pretty amazing as well; one coat and it was practically done although I always do two coats regardless. I applied it just like my usual routine ala my happy coral nail routine with one tweak: I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri quick dry topcoat.

Sadly the polish seems to peel off pretty easily. I loved the colour so much I repainted them again a second time round thinking maybe I was too rushed in proper application the first time. But no..it peeled off just as easily after three days. Therefore I'm So Very...sad that it doesnt last at all really. Love the colour and the ease of application but no staying power. Can be worn for three days max and then change it up.
